Chewsday Tuesday – How to build the perfect smoothie

smoothie

I love a good smoothie.  But it has to be perfect, if it’s too thick you can’t sip it through a straw, if it’s too thin it just doesn’t taste right.  So I have finally perfected the perfect smoothie and today I am sharing it with you.

You don’t need many ingredients, so that makes them super cheap!  But something to keep in mind when making a smoothie…you can overload it…and end up with a smoothie that is nearly half of your daily recommended calorie intake!  So try not to add all the things to one smoothie.

Here are the basic ingredients, from the bottom:

  • Liquid, about 6 oz of liquid is a great amount
  • 1 cup Frozen fruit, I like to use fruit blends – the smoothie in the photo has blackberries, beaches and strawberries
  • 1-2 cups Greens (depending on the size of your blender cup), choose hearty leafy greens like spinach or kale
  • 1-2 scoops Protein Powder (PB2, protein shake powder, or regular PB is great!)

Then blend and enjoy.  Some other great combos:

Peanut Butter Banana

  • Almond milk
  • Frozen bananas
  • Kale
  • PB2

Caramel Apple

  • Almond milk
  • Frozen Apple sauce cubes
  • Vanilla protein powder
  • Walden Farms Caramel dip

Blueberry Banana

  • Water
  • Frozen bananas & blueberries
  • Spinach
  • Chocolate protein powder
